Meet The Team
Meet Dean, Project Manager.
Dean Burné is one of our Project Managers, and an all-round event maestro, let’s dive in and learn a little bit about him.
What’s your role at Ministry of Fun, and what does a typical day look like?
On a day-to-day basis, I am one of the smiling faces that you are likely to see out on a project.
In addition to the account & project management I am often out on the ground delivering for our clients.
No two days are the same, one moment it’s arranging the technical specs for a band, the next it’s costing up a flashmob of punk-farmers juggling potatoes in Central London. It certainly keeps me on my toes.
What’s the most unexpected skill you’ve used on the job?
Well, perhaps not “unexpected” for most, but for me it is Excel shortcuts.
My background is in theatre & touring shows so usually it is my physical skillset that is called upon, should’ve seen that coming when I moved to a more office-based role really.
What project or stunt have you loved working on the most and why?
One of the more recent projects involved creating a Willy Wonka-themed Christmas party.
We took over a normal office space and totally transformed it into a wonderland, complete with an edible dessert forest, a chocolate river, and even bubble-gum-scented smoke bubbles.
Pure magic!
How did you first get into the world of events/entertainment?
I’ve always been involved in performing arts in one form or another. From starting out playing trombone and dancing ballet at school, through to performing arts college.
After graduation I moved in to touring musicals then on to technical theatre.
I actually first starting working with MOF as a freelance performer way back in 2003!
What’s something people don’t realise goes on behind the scenes in live events?
Most people don’t really realise the sheer amount of permissions, paperwork and health & safety needed to pull-off a successful event.
Even I totally underestimated the scale of the admin, and that’s even before anything actually happens.
Go-to hype song before a big event?
Danger Zone – Kenny Loggins. An absolute classic of a banger!
What three words would your colleagues use to describe you?
- Happy.
- Fun.
- Full of biscuits.
(Yes, that’s more than three.)
Fun fact about you?
You will mostly find me in crew blacks, but occasionally I can also be found suited & booted at the ballet.
I’m also a HUGE WW2 nerd!
