Things you didn’t know about live events (& MOF!)
We’re not saying we’ve personally caused an 80-minute standing ovation… But we are saying that we’ve done some pretty brilliant things in our 28 years of mischief-making.
So here’s a mix of event industry gold and a few extra Ministry Of Fun gems for your entertainment:
Live Event Legends
- Rod Stewart once played to 3.5 million people in Brazil, and we bet that he still didn’t have enough wristbands!
- The longest standing ovation lasted 80 minutes after a performance of Othello in Vienna. Some of our performers say, “Hold my halo.”
- GLASTONBURY FESTIVAL’S first ever crowd was just 1,500 people. The ticket price was £1 and included free milk. We’ve been many times over the years and can absolutely confirm: it’s certainly not the milk that you remember.
- Mariah Carey once asked for 20 white kittens and 100 doves in her dressing room. Our oddest rider request was for SPF30 and an umbrella. Classic British summer!
- Science confirms that attending live events releases oxytocin – the social bonding hormone.
- “Emotional contagion” is real. One person cries, the rest of the crowd will follow. And that’s before the confetti cannon even goes off.
Ministry of Fun Facts
- Born in 1997 and still going strong (and louder than ever).
- We’ve produced everything from street theatre to full-scale brand tours and theatre shows.
- We have the pleasure of officially being the UK’s longest running Santa School. Sleighs included!
- Our Santa School began in 1999 and is still training magical men in red every year.
- So far, we’ve broken 12 Guinness World Records and have been the subject of a Channel 4 documentary.
- We bring ideas to life – sometimes in full costume.
- Yes – we take fun very seriously.
Think you’ve got what it takes to join the madness?
We’re always scouting for the next big personality.
